What the program is

Many people living with persistent pain have spent years seeking answers, trying different treatments, improving only to a point, and eventually being told they may need to learn to live with it. But living with pain does not mean giving up on feeling better or doing more.

Modern pain science shows that persistent pain can often be managed effectively, and that strength, confidence, activity, and everyday function can improve. This program brings those strategies together in a practical, structured way to help you better understand your pain and build skills for living well.

Graded activity

Movement is an important part of managing persistent pain. This program teaches you how to plan, pace, and gradually progress activity so you can do more of what matters to you. It also helps you avoid the common “boom-and-bust” cycle, where doing too much leads to a flare-up, followed by doing much less.

Evidence-based information

The program provides clear, reliable information based on current pain science and research. Rather than offering generic advice, your physiotherapist helps you understand what the evidence means for your specific symptoms, goals, lifestyle, and challenges. Together, you can focus on the strategies that are most relevant and practical for you.

Lisa’s experience and this program

painUpdated was created by Lisa Jasper, PT, PhD, to bring together more than 30 years of clinical practice, research, and teaching experience in pain science and rehabilitation in a way that is practical, supportive, and useful for people living with persistent pain.

Lisa has extensive experience teaching healthcare professionals about pain management, and her clinical, research, and academic work has focused on chronic pain, rehabilitation, physical activity, and helping people better understand and manage complex health conditions.

One-to-one appointments are with Lisa Jasper, PT, PhD, a physiotherapist with a strong interest in chronic pain and evidence-based pain care. Lisa recognizes that every person’s situation is different, and treatment is tailored to your symptoms, goals, concerns, lifestyle, and the activities that matter most to you.

painUpdated combines evidence-based pain science with individualized guidance and practical strategies to help you better understand your pain, build confidence in movement, manage flare-ups, increase activity, and improve your ability to take part in everyday life.
